The Office of Student Life announced March 16, 2026, that Liana Navarro and Aubree Kennell won the 2026–27 ASMHCC presidential election and will serve as student body president and vice president in the coming academic year.
A total of 767 ballots were cast, a slight increase from last year’s 726 votes.
During their campaign, Navarro and Kennell outlined several goals for the upcoming year, with a focus on improving and expanding access to existing campus resources.
Extended library hours: Navarro said she plans to advocate for later library hours to better serve students with work commitments, evening classes or demanding schedules.
Updated classroom technology: Kennell hopes to improve classroom technology by expanding hybrid access, including recorded lectures for students who miss class or want additional study support.
Increased food access at Barney’s Pantry: Navarro said she intends to incorporate produce from the campus garden to provide more fresh food options for students.
Improved student feedback systems: Navarro and Kennell aim to gather feedback from a wider range of students through translated surveys and expanded outreach on social media platforms.
Navarro said working with administrators to implement proposals can be a lengthy process. Student leaders must collect data on affected students, identify solutions, present proposals to the board and resolve potential conflicts. The process can take months and often occurs behind the scenes.
While progress may not immediately result in visible changes, Navarro said updates can be shared during weekly ASMHCC meetings.
“The results of the election speak louder about what students want from their representatives, not whether we win or lose,” said Nam Tien Dang, ASMHCC vice president runner-up. “It is up to students to decide whether student leadership is doing enough to support them.”
