ASMHCC Election Results

The Associated Students of Mt. Hood Community College’s (ASMHCC) election for student body president and vice president for 2025-26 has concluded, with the Office of Student Life announcing on April 24 that Jeffery Erickson and Elaria Salib were winners of those respective races.

A total 726 votes were cast by Mt. Hood students, a significant improvement in turnout since last year’s election gathered only 306 votes.

Erickson received 408 votes while his rival, Heart Pham, earned 305 votes. Salib won a closer race, with 368 votes to the 354 for her opponent, Rhuan Carneiro.

The election also approved changes to the ASMHCC bylaws and created a list of ranked issues the group believes represent the current priorities of MHCC students.

To formally mark the beginning of the transition to next year’s student government, the Student Life helped ASMHCC run a sparsely attended swearing-in ceremony on May 13 in the Student Union, where the incoming leadership team officially accepted their positions.

After Erickson was sworn in, he led the other appointed members in their oaths. Then, John Hamblin, vice president of student development for Mt. Hood encouraged the team to immediately begin using their voice to advocate for students. Doctor Abio Ayeliya, Student Life and civic engagement director, reminded the ASMHCC members that their positions exist for the student body and not for them as individuals.

“Now you are given this opportunity, what are you going to do about it?” Abio Aveliya asked the assembled group.
