Student Body President Candidates Share Vision

On October 29, we had the chance to meet the candidates for the Associated Students of Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC). Our three contenders—Christopher Tronolone, Isaias Figueroa, and Peyton Annamarie Hull—shared their reasons for seeking our votes and their visions for MHCC’s future. This year’s presidential race began later than usual, as the previous president stepped down. Below is a summary of each candidate’s platform.
Peyton Hull aims to be a strong advocate for student voices, promote inclusivity at MHCC, and raise awareness for an upcoming bond vote in May.
Isaias Figueroa plans to improve communication between students and faculty, fostering a more vibrant and welcoming atmosphere on campus.
Christopher Tronolone is committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity, enhancing student services, increasing campus engagement, and advocating for affordability and resource awareness. Due to a scheduling conflict, he may endorse another candidate rather than running himself.
This event provided students with a chance to connect with candidates as individuals rather than in a traditional interview format. Christopher, who has decided not to seriously pursue the role, came to this decision during the event after hearing the plans presented by Hull and Figueroa, whom he felt were better suited to carry the platform forward.
With Tronolone likely stepping aside, Hull and Figueroa are left with platforms that share similar values and ideas, offering little to differentiate them. I raised the issue of the candidates’ limited planning with them directly, and they responded that it is still a work in progress and will grow stronger over time. Ultimately, I felt that these candidates have potential to grow in their roles and become more effective. They are aware of many issues and are committed to listening to the students themselves. If you want to see a change make sure to take the time and go meet these students when possible.
