On Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day, ASMHCC hosted a wonderful, love-filled event in the Student Union building. Appropriately named the “Heartbeat Retreat,” the event saw a massive turnout of students with a line wrapped around the building.

Two ASMHCC members made smoothies for the crowd and gave away 70 reusable cups. There was a beautiful backdrop for students to get photos with our school’s mascot, Barney the St. Bernard, as well as a table for making friendship bracelets and another table for identifying relationship red flags (“bad” traits or behavior) and green flags (“good” traits or behavior). I thought that was a thoughtful inclusion, as many people struggle to identify when a relationship is draining or harmful to them.

There were also free roses and lots of candy to go around.

I am always impressed by the events ASMHCC pulls together, and their dedication to enriching the student experience, on and off campus. I look forward to attending these events when I can and can’t wait for what they have in store during Spring Term!
