Theater Production Explores Gender and Roles

Once again, the MHCC Theatre Department put on a fabulous performance last month, with an incredible set and costumes.

As described by theatre student Leo Decker, “There were these dudes on boats, and they were going down the Colorado River, slowly running out of food and in slowly sinking boats.”

In the play as staged at Mt. Hood, all the characters were played by feminine-presenting or nongender-conforming actors.

The saga’s moral, summed up at the end in a line by one of the characters, is that no one will remember anyone from the expedition other than the leader. Ouch. What a poignant commentary on our society and history!

Congratulations to the cast and crew on an amazing season, they set the bar high for next year!
