WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW, AND WHERE TO GO for water INSTEAD

It’s that time of the month when January temperatures drop at a surprising rate, ice slowly freezes and slight chances of snow cloud the minds of many weather forecasters.

Around this point, most folks — including myself — let sinks and faucets drip overnight to avoid breaking water mains. Not shockingly, technicians at Mount Hood Community College have done the same.

MHCC has closed all outside water stations and fountains for the upcoming freeze to prevent pipes from rupturing under pressure and stress. These stations will reopen during spring term. Until then, you will need to refill your bottle at water fountains and water bottle fill stations inside. Locations include in the library and library mezzanine, the Student Union, the College Theatre, Aquatics, HPE lobby, and in the Applied Tech building.

After walking the campus asking questions, meeting staff, and running into a few obstacles; I was able to find one working water fountain still in commission. Between the east side of the gym, and before stepping foot onto the Earl Klapstein Stadium, sits a running station still readily available for anyone to use, unlike it’s northern partner with is inoperable during the rest of winter term. Moving southeast from the stadium, you’ll find yourself faced with a unique building. The Aquatics center is not only the famous home of our colleges pool, or rock wall, but houses the only warm water fountain within the school.
