A Closer Look at Gresham's Two Farmer's Markets
As the aura of summer fills the air, Gresham welcomes back one of its most cherished seasonal experiences – the farmers’ markets.
These community events offer fresh produce and handcrafted goods that reflect the values and culture of the neighborhoods they serve. The Farmer’s Market at Mt. Hood Community College and the Original Gresham Farmers’ Market stand out in our area. Both of the markets offer a unique approach to community needs, retailer experience, and local pride. Though they share the goal of bringing fresh goods to the community, their differences show the richness and variety of Gresham’s market space.

The Farmer’s Market at MHCC: A Mission-Driven weekend destination
Located on the Gresham campus of MHCC, this market is a new and fast-growing center for weekend activity. Opening in April, it will run every Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m through Oct. 19, giving residents and visitors two days each week to discover what it offers.
MHCC’s version – staged in parking lots W, X and Y nearest the intersection of Northeast Kane Drive and Southeast Stark Street – is notable for its commitment to serve the community. A greater portion of the market’s proceeds are channeled towards affordable housing and food insecurity initiatives. It is home to high-quality food vendors, local farmers, artists, and crafters. Organic produce, fresh-cut flowers, handmade soaps, and fine art are available.
Beyond the goods for sale, the Mt. Hood market creates a warm environment with live music and shaded seating areas where shoppers can relax, eat, and enjoy the moment.
Retailer-friendly policies make this market attractive for small business owners. Retailers can apply online via ManageMyMarket.com, and once approved, pay a $50/day fee or a discounted $80/weekend rate for a 10-by-20 foot booth space. This helps reduce financial constraints for smaller sellers.

The Original Gresham Farmers’ Market: A historic community staple
The Original Gresham Farmers’ Market is in the heart of downtown Gresham. It has been a weekend tradition since 1986, running every Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. through Oct. 25 this year. The market is located at the Center for the Arts Plaza, on Northeast Third Street between Hood and Kelly avenues.
This market’s attraction lies in its long-standing presence and broad community involvement. There are many vendors offering everything from locally grown produce and plant starts to handmade toiletries, jewelry, baked goods, and wine. Live music adds a joyful atmosphere, while its dog-friendly policy makes it a perfect outing for a family.
The Gresham market emphasizes transparency and originality. Sellers are expected to grow or make at least 75% of the products they sell, promoting a level of originality that customers look forward to. Also, the seller application process requires some paperwork and certifications.

Two markets, one community
Although these two farmers’ markets are close, they offer varied experiences that meet different needs.

Ultimately, both markets offer a healthy share of Gresham’s community spirit, whether you are shopping for the week’s fresh ingredients, handcrafted goods, or just enjoying live music with family and friends. So why limit your choice to just one? You can spend a Saturday morning in historic downtown Gresham and a Sunday afternoon at MHCC. You will appreciate that each market has its individual appeal.
