The cool winds have started to settle in, along with the busy crowd of returning students, faculty and new arrivals. With an estimated 2,000 new students beginning this fall, we can expect campus to be hectic these first few weeks.

Mt. Hood Community College had a head start with their orientation in early September, welcoming over 400 new Saints to campus. It set grounds for the upcoming year, gathering everyone together in the Main Mall and filling the space with joy after a quiet summer.

The yearly event goes on from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and is packed with learning and fun activities. Students get a glimpse into college life through campus tours, workshops and information tables from community and campus resources, programs and co-curriculars. There are also games, free lunch served by faculty and MHCC President Lisa Skari and a raffle with a chance to win a free laptop.

As the first week of Fall Term officially began, both new and returning students were greeted again with a series of welcome-back events. Each pop-up table was calm amongst all the chaos. Each day a new theme offered students a bite to eat and a place for questions and concerns.

Don’t worry if you missed the chance to stop by. Events like these are expected to continue throughout the month as students adjust.
