CULTURAL CELEBRATIONS TO CAMPUS CONNECTIONS

Well, we did it, folks. We survived October.

We survived midterm projects and exams. We survived Halloween and an array of related celebrations and observances. We survived the first half of fall term and made it through the much-anticipated, or possibly dreaded, midterm elections. We survived busy schedules, competing responsibilities and all the personal challenges life threw our way.

And you know what?

We’re still here.

Congratulations.

As fall term moves into November, amid assignments, deadlines, and everyday demands of student life, there are also some great opportunities to connect, celebrate, learn something new and have a little fun along the way here at Mt. Hood Community College.

From cultural celebrations and conversations with campus leaders to gaming competitions, art exhibitions and athletic events, November promises plenty of reasons to step away from the textbooks and get involved in campus life.

“Of course, sometimes getting involved doesn't mean adding another activity to your schedule. Sometimes it means finding a little support.”

And the great news is, there’s something for just about everyone.

Looking for good food and conversation?

Start with Pizza with the Presidents on Nov. 10, where students can enjoy lunch and connect with leadership. Stop by the Cultural Exchange Cafe on Nov. 17 for international snacks, coffee and opportunities to learn about the languages and experiences of fellow students.

Need a friendly competition?

ASMHCC’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament on Nov. 13 offers a chance to put your gaming skills to the test, with free tacos and a $15 gift card prize. Saints athletics also has several home games scheduled throughout the month, giving students opportunities to show their school spirit.

Interested in exploring art, culture or something new?

November includes celebrations recognizing Native American and Indigenous Peoples Heritage Month and Transgender Day of Remembrance, along with International Education Week activities. The Visual Arts Gallery will be featuring Jennifer Harrison’s Hurry Up exhibit through Nov. 19, while the MHCC planetarium will take audiences on another journey through the universe that same evening.

If you’re already thinking about holiday gifts, MHCC Clay Club’s annual ceramics sale begins Nov. 30, offering handmade creations from the campus art community.

Getting involved doesn’t mean adding another activity to your schedule. Sometimes it means finding a little support.

MHCC’s Stress & Anxiety Support Group meets Thursdays throughout fall term, providing students with opportunities to share experiences, practice mindfulness and learn stress management skills. No advance registration required.

Although deadlines and the responsibilities waiting for us outside of class, are not going away, but there are still opportunities to find peace, connect with the community, try something new and make the most of our time here at MHCC.
