ROCKWOOD LIBRARY REFRESH

After months of renovation work, the Rockwood Library will reopen its doors to the public today, Friday, Oct. 24.

Located at 17917 SE Stark St., the branch has been completely refreshed as part of Multnomah County Library’s 2020 voter-approved bond project, which aims to modernize neighborhood libraries across the county. In all, the “Refresh Projects” are intended to modernize 11 neighborhood libraries, creating safer, more accessible, and more welcoming spaces for community members.

For Mt. Hood Community College students, the reopening offers more than just a new study spot – it’s a nearby resource designed for comfort, creativity, and connection.

The updated Rockwood space features flexible seating, improved lighting, and better technology access, including a new Tech Bar with computers, scanners, and a copy machine. Students can expect more tables for group work and a quieter reading room with new chairs and improved layout.

During the closure, Rockwood’s makerspace operated out of the (also recently renovated) Midland Library, but now returns home with expanded creative tools and technology.

The children’s area has also been redesigned with movable furniture, giving families and young learners a more inviting space to explore books and programs. While all these updates make the branch brighter and improve access, the library’s mission remains the same: to serve as a free and welcoming place for everyone to learn and grow.

And whether MHCC students might need a quiet place to study, print assignments, or just take a break between classes, the Rockwood branch offers a great chance to reconnect with our local library system.

As a reminder, that system would gain a major addition when the much larger East County Library under construction in Gresham is due to open sometime next spring.
